Unfortunately we have some sad news about Burger Zone on the Upper East Side, they look to have closed according to this photo sent in from one of our great Thanks A Glatt readers. They were supposed to go Glatt Kosher after the nine days but it looks like that never panned out. Hopefully someone else will pick up where they left off and reopen something kosher soon!

Red Mango, located on Fulton Street is now under the supervision of the International Kosher Council. Can someone call Pinkberry and tell them they need to follow suit next? Thanks!

Kosher options are expanding for those who work and live in the Financial District. Koshertopia has learned that a new restaurant will open around Labor Day at 17 Trinity Place (at the old location of Essex on Coney). The new restaurant, Good Fellas will be supervised by the OU. No word on what type of cuisine they will be serving but we won’t foggetaboutit and will update this when we know!

Tipster and friend to Thanks A Glatt (they happen to live upstairs!) sent us this picture of Burger Zone on the UES with what looks like good news, they are under new ownership and hechsher! We have further discovered that they will be under the Vaad Harabonim of Flatbush! We look forward to finally checking out their burgers!

Had a chance to check out the new Shiraz Restaurant (formerly Danny’s) tonight in Great Neck. The renovations look great (we hope to see more kosher restaurants renovate their places as nice as this place) and the food is nice, tasty and authentic Persian style. In addition to that they have a full menu that includes fresh sushi, steaks, Italian food and more. They did have some kinks that need to be fixing but that always happens at a new restaurant and we are sure they will have everything squared away shortly.

This photo from above was seen at the Associated Supermarket is Queens.
From the New Yorker
But if you want actual Kosher pork—pork spare ribs, pork cutlets, center-cut pork chops, all labeled in Hebrew “Sh’Chita K’shera Beit Yosef” (i.e., kosher)—you get that only in New York, only at the Associated Supermarket at 4407 Greenpoint Avenue, in Sunnyside, Queens, and only for a few hours today, between the time the Israeli artist Oded Hirsch snapped the above photo on his cell phone and it got forwarded to me, and the time I phoned Aris Duran, the supermarket manager, for an explanation.
“What are you saying?” Duran asked. “Pork cannot be kosher.” So I e-mailed him the photo. He called me right back, and said he was going to pull all the meat off the shelves. “It was a mistake,” he said, and a few seconds later he called back and left a message to say, “Thanks for alerting me.”

Thanks a Glatt has learned that a new French Steakhouse & Sushi Bar, named “Meat Me” will open in the Upper West Side. They are planning on opening after the nine days however we know how difficult NYC renovations can be so we would be surprised to see if they open on time or not.
