Shalom Bombay Teaneck to close

Thanks a Glatt! has learned that Shalom Bombay in Teaneck has been sold and will be re-opening under another name and probably without hechsher.  We are sad to see them go but wish them more luck on their NYC locations! Official press release below.

June 23, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

We at Shalom Bombay of Teaneck would like to take the opportunity to thank the many loyal patrons in Bergen County and its surrounding areas. It has been our pleasure to serve you for the last 2 1/2 years. The enthusiasm about our first location has also led to the great success of our second location, opened almost 1 year ago in Manhattan.

At this time, we have chosen to accept a buyout offer. The former proprietor of our location expressed an interest in reacquiring it and we felt that it was the most prudent path for us to take. He will be operating the Teaneck restaurant under a different name, not associated with Shalom Bombay or the RCBC.

We will now have the opportunity to focus on the Manhattan location and help it on its continued path of growth and popularity. We will also be focusing our efforts on expanding our catering business (weddings, Kiddushes, dinner events, Bar-Mitzvahs) with our unique but versatile cuisine options.

The people of North Jersey are quite discerning foodies with an array of local Kosher options. Shalom Bombay Manhattan will still be that appealing destination for special times spent in the city as well as for the many professionals who work and do business in Manhattan and like to enjoy mouthwatering Indian food for a great value lunch.

Any outstanding coupons and gift certificates will be honored at the Manhattan location. The last day of operations as Shalom Bombay of Teaneck will be Sunday, June 26, 2011.

We look forward to continuing to serve you and cater to all your needs.

Alan Cohnen, Debbie Siegler

Shalom Bombay to re-open on Thursday

Shalom Bombay has said that they plan on opening back up their midtown location on Thursday.

What is with all the shutdowns lately?  With Rosa’s pizza getting closed today and Shalom Bombay being shutdown last week, has New York City decided to crack down on kosher restaurants in NYC?

Shalom Bombay: The Review

Rating (out of 5):

There was a storm a few weeks ago that shut down all the LIRR lines – so what better way to spend the night stuck in NYC than to check out New York City’s newest Glatt Kosher Indian restaurant, Shalom Bombay under the hechsher of the Orthodox Union.  With much success in Teaneck they decided to try their chances in the more prestigious Manhattan market – and we think they are going to make it.

Shalom Bombay to open a location in Murray Hill

We just received word from David Gruber, a partner from Shalom Bombay in Teaneck that they will be opening their first New York City location at 39th and Lexington on Sunday, April 11th.  This news coming a week after Dakshin II was titled as being the only Kosher Indian restaurant in NYC! Sorry that their reign did not last long however we here at Thanks a Glatt! love competition!

Shalom Bombay’s NYC location will feature a more upscale ambiance than their Teaneck counterpart.  Their menu will remain predominately the same however they will have more lunch and take-out specials (available to order via Seamless Web as well).  They will also be open on Fridays and will be under the Orthodox Union hechsher.

This might be my new favorite place to order from since I work semi-close to the neighborhood!

The best news though is that David mentioned that the first 50 people to email shalombombay@yahoo.com will be invited to an exclusive free tasting on April 8th!
